The Prestwich home education class is a great and inexpensive way to give home educated kids the social interactions they miss out on from the experience of a school classroom.
This class takes a more structured approach and is not intended to be a completely free runaround. While not completely rigid, the philosophy is that home education affords enough opportunity for that experience already and this class needs to offer home ed children a little something that they may not experience in their daily learning. The main (and often only) criticism people have of home education is the lack of the ‘school experience’ whether that be social interaction with other children or the experience of a structured task lesson. This class attempts to fill that gap so that children are not surprised should they ever be required to operate in this type of environment.
Children learn to work toward goals and alongside others in various subjects, and have fun meeting other children of differing ages.
the class is run by Prudence Clarke who prepares activities for the class on a weekly basis. These are not however rigid and if any members wish to prepare a class or suggest a subject they should feel free to notify us and we will allocate a lesson.
Subjects suitable for teaching are academic subjects – science, art, music, history, geography, maths, english et cetera. We do not allow the teaching of any spiritual or mystical subjects, including religion.
While all races, creeds and faiths are welcome to attend this class, no promotion of religion or proselytising is permitted.
The price of the class is to cover the cost of the room and materials. The class does not generate profit.
